AN event showcasing Fife's successful and diverse social enterprises took place yesterday (Wednesday 21 November) at the Rothes Halls, Glenrothes.

Jointly funded by EQUAL, Communities Scotland and Fife Council's Development Services, and organised by the Fife Social Economy Partnership, this was the first event of its kind in Fife.

As well as celebrating the Kingdom's established social enterprises, which include BRAG, Furniture Plus, Recycle Fife and FEAT Enterprises, delegates found out more about them - what they are, the 'triple bottom line', that is how social enterprises can not only benefit the economy but the environment and the community, as well as how you can get involved and the support available. Roddy Macdonald, Head of the Scottish Government's Social Enterprise Team also launched the Fife Social Economy Partnership's (FSEP) Strategy to support social enterprises in Fife.

Chair of FSEP, Alison Macdonald said: "This was an excellent opportunity to and find out about Fife's successful social enterprises. It was also a great way to learn about what social enterprise is about and how, if you're thinking about starting a business, a social enterprise is a possibility.

"Over 60 people came along and the feedback has been very positive. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day.

"With over 50 social enterprises working across the Kingdom, these organisations play a vital role in providing services, supporting people and contributing to the local economy. There is a wealth of support for social enterprises here in Fife to help them develop their capacity and to grow; this has recently been strengthened with a temporary dedicated start-up advisor. We're the first partnership to do this."
