Fife Constabulary Community Inspector, Ken Stickings, based at Cowdenbeath reports that another round of successful Community Engagement Meetings were held in July throughout the Cowdenbeath Policing area, giving members of the public an opportunity to influence policing priorities within their own communities.
Inspector Stickings said:" We continue to listen to what communities want their local police officers to deal with within their communities and the feedback I am receiving from those attending the meetings is very positive. We are proactively dealing with matters such as drugs, alcohol misuse, speeding, parking and anti-social behaviour, highlighted to us by the very people its affecting. Through partnership working with all available agencies, information from the public, Crimestoppers information and good resource management, we are trying to make a positive difference to the area you reside in. Crime is down, meaning less victims of crime, whilst detection of those responsible for committing crime is up within the Cowdenbeath area and this is down to the support and co-operation of the community.
Inspector Stickings continued: To further build on this, we have been successful recently in obtaining the services of the Fife Community Safety Partnership's Safer Neighbourhood Team, (SNT). This team, comprising a Sergeant and five officers, will be deployed solely within the Lochgelly area for a 3-month period. They started duty in Lochgelly on 6th July and will concentrate on dealing with the issues raised by the local community and work towards building on long term partnerships to deal with the main issue, anti-social behaviour and alcohol misuse. This is a very positive deployment by Fife Constabulary in an area where vibrant regeneration is ongoing and can only serve to build on the four pillars of the Policing Plan, Tackling Crime, Being there for the Community, Safer Neighbourhoods and Building on Success."
Sergeant Callum Winton, in charge of the SNT further stated, " I am looking forward to the challenges ahead in the Lochgelly area. We have been made very welcome in Lochgelly so far and I can assure you that we will strive to make a difference to the community through partnership working and public consultation in support of your local community Police officers in the 3 months of our deployment. Although alcohol misuse and the associated anti-social behaviour that follows will be our main concern, already we have been actively involved in dealing with a concern raised at the recent Lochgelly Community Engagement Meeting by assisting local officers executing a drugs warrant in the local area and removing several thousand pounds worth of controlled drugs from the streets. You will see us out on foot patrol in the Lochgelly area on a regular basis so please, engage with us and help to improve your community by working together."
One of the main partners in this deployment is Fife Council Locality Services and Local Locality manager Lynn Leitch said: " I have been involved in the regeneration of Lochgelly for a number of years now and this deployment can only further enhance the community spirit within the area. I have offered my full support to the team and look forward to see what can be achieved in the next three months."
