Cameron, 15 and his sister Catriona, 10 came face to face with their great great great grandfather at Kirkcaldy Museum & Art Gallery last week.

They were visiting the exhibition McTaggart’s Children – A Centenary Celebration with their mother Elspeth Smith who is the granddaughter of William McTaggart’s youngest son Ivor.

They are pictured here with a self portrait by their ancestor which is called A Study of Oak Leaves in Autumn painted in 1892 when the artist was aged 57. This painting is on loan from the National Galleries of Scotland.

Elspeth said, “I will be coming back to see the exhibition again, it needs more time than I have today. My children enjoyed it very much too – their compliments to the staff who developed the trails and activities. Cameron picked out Christmas Day as his favourite painting in the exhibition which is also a favourite of mine.”

McTaggart’s Children – a centenary exhibition is free and runs until 3 October 2010.
