Fife’s employability partnership, ‘Opportunities Fife’, has just secured £100,000 to work with local employers to up-skill Fife’s workforce.
The funding, available until June 2011, has been secured from the European Social Fund and the Department of Work and Pension’s Deprived Area Fund. It will allow Fife Council and Kingdom Housing Association’s Fife Works Project to enhance the level of support available to help people sustain jobs through gaining vocational qualifications and learning new skills.
Eligible clients must live in Fife and be currently in work and priority will be given to people with low qualifications or who lack basic skills. This initiative will also assist small and medium sized businesses and social enterprises to develop the workforce skills they need to help grow their business.
Cllr Tony Martin, the Strategic Chair of Fife Council Environment Enterprise & Transportation Committee said “It’s great news for Fife that we’ve secured such a substantial amount of money to up skill Fife’s workforce, especially in this economic climate. I hope that this fund will make a substantial difference in helping people to sustain or progress in their employment.“
